...The FAL conducts research in the area of agricultural science and related disciplines. The organization publishes research results and cooperates internationally with other scientists and organizations. One purpose of the FAL is to obtain basic scientific knowledge to assist in political decisions on nutrition, agriculture, forestry and consumer issues.
With an approach oriented toward establishing scientific basics, the work of the FAL serves the basis for application-oriented research, and thus improves the level of scientific knowledge for the common good.
The environmentally-conserving production of low cost, high quality food products is one task for agriculture. Others include the production of renewable resources, the conservation of natural resources and the preservation of cultivated landscapes. The FAL makes use of the most current scientific information, particularly in the fields of biotechnology, information technology and ecological systems research, in its interdisciplinary approach to research.

The BSE Inquiry was announced in Parliament on 22 December 1997, and set up on 12 January 1998, to establish and review the history of the emergence and identification of BSE and new variant CJD in the United Kingdom, and of the action taken in response to it up to 20 March 1996; to reach conclusions on the adequacy of that response, taking into account the state of knowledge at the time; and to report on these matters to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Health and the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

...The School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover employs in all ca. 1,000 academic and non-academic staff members and has ca. 1,800 students of veterinary medicine and 400 students of biology. Each year, ca. 250 veterinarians are graduated here. The academic staff is comprised of ca. 250 members. Most of the 700 technical staff are qualified "Veterinary Medical Laboratory Technicians" or "Medical Laboratory Assistants".
The most important tasks of the School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover are teaching and research.
